Shortly after the launch of GPT-3, ChatGPT-4 emerged, faster and nearly flawless. This fourth version of conversational AI sets new standards for AI-driven interactions and promises to push boundaries. GPT-4 is the latest addition to OpenAI’s series of language models, designed to generate human-like text.
ChatGPT-4 is a powerful model that understands and creates in-depth texts, answers questions, and processes visual input. The output is nearly perfect and of high quality. The biggest breakthrough of this model is its ability to handle both text and images as input. This opens up new possibilities, including the use of visual information.
What other opportunities arise from this expansion?
New Perspectives with GPT-4. With the introduction of GPT-4, new perspectives have emerged, resulting in a range of fresh opportunities. Here’s a closer look at these new features:
ChatGPT-4 offers significantly expanded capacity for both input and output. While ChatGPT-3 is limited in the amount of generated text, ChatGPT-4 distinguishes itself by its ability to produce substantially more words. GPT-4 is trained to thoroughly model complex inputs and convert them into highly detailed and clear results.
With the capability to accept up to 25,000 words as input, this AI model can handle larger tasks more quickly, accurately, and efficiently. This makes it particularly well-suited for applications such as extensive reports, analyses, and other content that requires in-depth explanations and context.
An exciting announcement was undoubtedly that GPT-4 would become a multimodal model, meaning it can process both text and images. This opens up a wide range of new possibilities. During a livestream session, OpenAI demonstrated one of these capabilities.
In the demonstration, a hand-drawn mock-up of a fictional website was used to showcase the power of image processing. This mock-up consisted of hand-sketched design elements, which were then uploaded as a photo along with simple instructions to generate HTML code for the website. The digital result was an accurate representation of the original mock-up, including both the design and textual elements.
While informal conversations may not reveal much difference, the true distinction between ChatGPT-3 and ChatGPT-4 becomes evident when tackling complex tasks.
To assess this difference, OpenAI conducted various tests simulating human examinations. They utilized currently available public test questions, such as those from the Olympiads and open-ended questions for Advanced Placement (AP), as well as paid practice exams for the academic year 2022-2023.
The results showed significant differences between the two models. For instance, in the simulation of the bar exam, GPT-3 scored in the bottom 10% of test takers, while GPT-4 performed in the top 10%.
With the growing popularity of AI language models, prioritizing safety and ethics in their design is essential. OpenAI has integrated a safety reward signal during the Reinforcement Learning with Human Feedback (RLHF) training to reduce harmful outputs.
GPT-4 significantly improves safety compared to GPT-3, showing an 82% reduction in responses to undesirable content. It also performs 40% better than GPT-3 in providing factual answers. While limitations still exist, this represents a crucial step forward in minimizing inaccurate “hallucinations” of facts, enhancing the reliability of the model for users.
The use of ChatGPT-4 offers several benefits:
ChatGPT-4 features more advanced language models and better understands the context and nuances of human input. This enables it to generate more accurate and meaningful responses.
GPT-4 is a multimodal model, meaning it can process not only text but also images. This opens the door to new applications that involve both textual and visual information.
GPT-4 is trained and optimized to handle complex tasks more effectively. Tests have shown that it achieves better results than its predecessor when performing challenging tasks, such as standardized exams.
OpenAI has implemented safety measures within GPT-4, significantly reducing the tendency to produce unwanted or harmful content. This contributes to a safer and more responsible user experience.
GPT-4 shows an improvement in providing factual answers and has a reduced tendency to generate incorrect information. This helps enhance the reliability of the generated content.
These benefits contribute to improved communication, enhanced performance on complex tasks, and safer interactions with AI language models.
